There are moments that are not measured by what you’ve done, but by what they come to represent.
That one of my Meninas has once again been chosen as an award for the Sophia Awards for Excellence by the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, and presented by Her Majesty Queen Sofía, is something I receive with a profound sense of honor.
From the very beginning, the Menina has been my way of reinterpreting a universal icon through a contemporary lens — breaking it apart, reshaping it, and bringing it back with a more open vision of our time.
But on occasions like this, the work moves beyond its own language.
It becomes part of something larger. A symbol that connects culture, legacy, and international recognition.
To see my work in that context is, without a doubt, deeply meaningful.
Because there are moments when art is not only experienced.
It is honored.
