Real Madrid have just won their fifteenth European Cup, adding another chapter to the club’s history after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final at Wembley, with goals from Carvajal and Vini Jr.
The day after the victory, the team returned to Madrid to share the trophy with the city. During the reception at Palacio de Cibeles, Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida presented Florentino Pérez with one of my Meninas, personalised to commemorate this latest European triumph.
It is particularly exciting for me to see one of my sculptures become part of a moment like this. The Menina is a figure deeply connected to Madrid and Spanish culture and, on this occasion, it also becomes a lasting reminder of a victory that is now part of sporting history.
Art and football come together in a piece created to celebrate La Decimoquinta, taking my artistic universe into one of those moments that will remain forever in the memory of a city.
